The image above shows a typical Game Boy Pocket with a severely damaged LCD polarizer. While the polarizer film itself can be replaced, the original LCD assembly is extremely fragile, and the ribbon connections are easily damaged during removal.

For units with significant screen degradation, I generally recommend replacing the aging OEM display with a modern IPS screen. This upgrade preserves the original hardware while delivering dramatically improved brightness, contrast, and long-term reliability—transforming the system into something that looks and plays better than it ever did when new.
